What is a Sachet?
A sachet is a single-use packaging typically designed for one-time use. These packages are usually small and can be made from various materials such as paper or plastic. Sachets are often sold in sets within a main packaging and are widely used in industries like food, cosmetics, and hygiene products.
Types of Sachet Packaging
Sachet packaging can generally be divided into two types: pencil-shaped and square. However, based on the raw materials, there are various types:
-
Polyethylene:
Also known as nylon packaging, it is rarely used for food products and is more suitable for non-food items.
-
Cellophane (Solfon):
Cellophane or laminated packaging with metallization is the most popular choice for sachets. These sachets are typically made from materials like OPP, BOPP, and CPP.
-
Metallized:
This is one of the most commonly used materials in sachet packaging. It consists of very thin sheets of aluminum (7 and 12 microns) that are often laminated with cellophane for enhanced durability. Metallized sachets prevent light penetration and protect the contents from spoilage for longer periods.
-
Paper:
Paper sachets are commonly used for single-serve packaging of items like salt, pepper, and spices.
Applications of Sachets
Sachets are not limited to food packaging. They are widely used in other industries such as cosmetics, hygiene products, and various other goods. For example, single-use wet wipes are typically packaged in high-thickness metallized sachets.
Pencil-Shaped Sachet Packaging
Most coffee powders are packaged in pencil-shaped sachets. As the name suggests, this type of packaging is very narrow in width but much longer in length, giving it a cylindrical shape. This type of packaging is produced in a tubular form, with sealing done at the bottom. After filling the sachet, thermal sealing is applied to the other side to close it.
Liquid Sachet Packaging (Liquid Sachet Printing)
In liquid sachet packaging, the durability and strength of the packaging are crucial since it is used for products like sauces, lemon juice, honey, and similar items. For this type of packaging, a laminated metallized layer over OPP (Oriented Polypropylene) is typically used to ensure adequate resistance against leakage and pressure.
Spice Sachet Packaging
Most restaurants use paper sachets for packaging spices, typically produced in very small sizes. However, to improve the quality and durability of the packaging, one can opt for cellophane sachets with custom printing. This type of packaging not only better preserves the product but also adds an aesthetic appeal.
Other Applications of Sachet Printing
Packaging using plastic materials has a broad range of applications, and almost every industry, profession, and factory requires it for packaging their products. It is not possible to list all of its uses, as each person seeks custom packaging for a specific purpose. However, some of the most common uses include:
- Food Sachets: Such as single-use ketchup sachets.
- Cosmetic and Hygiene Sachets: For example, single-use wet wipes.
- Pharmaceutical Sachets: For packaging various medicines.
These applications demonstrate the versatility and adaptability of sachet packaging to meet the diverse needs of the market.
Cutting Line
Sachets made of cellophane or metallized materials require a specific cutting design. Due to their high durability, these materials are typically difficult to tear by hand, and even when torn, they don’t separate easily.
For this reason, any single-use sachet packaging made from cellophane should be designed with a high-quality cutting line. The cutting line should be designed in such a way that, while maintaining strength, it allows for easy and effortless tearing. This feature helps consumers open the packaging easily and use the product.
